A resident of Yantai in Shandong Province, Zhao Hanqing received his formal education in art and design, then worked in the financial sector. A pipe smoker since 2004, he'd tried his hand at carving previously, but it wasn't until 2010 that he left his job and took to carving full time.
Having received tutelage under Kurt Balleby, the Danish aesthetic is evident in his work, shaping pieces with a strong sense of line and curve.
