American Estates: Rolando Negoita Rusticated Conducta Reverse Calabash (2011)

Product Number: 004-149-0220

Rolando Negoita was born in Transylvania (Romania) and came from a long tradition of craftsmen. Needless to say, Rolando is a very skilled artist working in many different mediums. After all, he teaches jewelry design and metal smithing at Parsons prestigious design school. A designer and craftsman at heart, Rolando is constantly inventing shapes that seem so perfect, one would almost expect that mother nature produced them on her own.

Rarely making classic shapes, Rolando sets out to invent new styles. To say that he is a master who thinks ‘outside the box’ is an understatement. Rolando might not even be aware that there is a box. Since he teaches metal smithing, it comes as no shock that he often uses silver, or other regal materials, on shanks and stems. Each stem and tenon is hand cut from solid ebonite rod, though Rolando does occasionally use acrylic. His sandblasts are wonderfully intricate, and his rustication can seem perfectly natural when it is employed. Some of his most famous designs are the whale, bellows, walnut, amphora, and katana.
