Though our sister site, Smokingpipes.com, saw a pair of these come through just a few short months ago, I myself have never seen Tom's newest, minimal rendition of the Rhodesian until now. While it may be a relatively new shape for the master carver, it nonetheless feels familiar, borrowing the crisp, tapering line of shank and stem from his own rendition of the Devil Anse and combining it with subtle cues from occasional collaborator Vladimir Grechukhin, as well as Tom's own love of playing fast and loose with the relative proportions of established shape chart classics. Throw in some playful diagonal symmetry from one side of the beadline to the other, as well as a whole lot of forward momentum to the canted bowl, and you've got a streamlined, modern take on an old classic that feels as comfortable to our sensibilities as it does in the hand.
