The Svendborg brand was created in 1969 by Tao Nielsen, Poul Ilsted, and their business partner Henrik Jørgensen. Named for a beach city in Funen, the workshop flourished during the 1970s before beginning a small decline in the 1980s when both Tao and Ilsted left.
