Founded in the ‘60s by Svend Bang, a tobacco trader who worked for W.O. Larsen, and who started the famous Larsen pipe factory, S. Bang was staffed by Per Hansen, who worked for Preben Holm, and Ulf Noltensmeier, who worked under Anne Julie after his own stint in the Preben Holm workshop. Though there were some initial struggles, with Svend wanting to increase production but Per and Ulf insisting on maintaining quality, quality won out, making S. Bang the brand it is today.

With very rare exceptions, all S. Bang pipes are finished smooth, the better to see the quality briar and craftsmanship, and if defects appear during shaping, the stummel is discarded.
