American Estates: Todd Johnson Partially Sandblasted Volcano (Hoplite) (2008)

Product Number: 004-149-0332

Todd Johnson’s work could be most aptly characterised as a fusion of his Danish high-grade roots and his fascination with Greek art, architecture and culture. A sculptor with briar as his medium, Todd Johnson has a fascinating and complex aesthetic, drawing on both of these sources, as well as seeking inspiration from other artistic traditions. Having been trained as a classicist, Todd Johnson is imbued with this vision, frequently overlaying classical Greek styling on traditional Danish aesthetics. The Danish influence that comes from studying under Tom Eltang and Lars Ivarsson, combined with his classical vision, offers Todd a robust aesthetic tradition, from which he explores a new and fascinating pipe making aesthetic.
