Over the course of his career as an artisan pipe maker, Lasse Skovgaard's various Acorn renditions have become signature shapes within his vast portfolio, with each interpretation serving as a testament to the Danish carver's skill and creativity with a singular shape. While many of these renditions have been a sort of play on the Horn shape — taking its semicircular shank and then opening it out slightly at the fore of the bowl as opposed to tucking it back in on itself — this particular piece is striking in its divergence.

Emerging as an independent element from the tucked transition and expanding as it flares toward its bulging, high-set waistline, the bowl on this piece waves at the rim, dipping at the middle and rising back up to the fore and aft. Combined with a longer, narrower shank; a flared horn ferrule; and a lightly downturned, willowy saddle stem, the whole piece is given an organic feel, as if it really is an acorn sitting atop an oak branch — especially with on of Skovgaards recognisable light-depth sandblasts.
