Old German Clay: Markus Fohr Crimped Panel Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-288-0007

Known for their neutral smoking qualities, clay pipes are used by blenders when testing new leaf and new blends. Briar is a wonderful material for pipes, but it adds a flavour of its own, one that most of us appreciate, but we all have occasion for tasting a tobacco in the purest form we can render. When we want that neutral medium, we can find no one able to boast the experience of Markus Fohr, whose family has been hand pressing clay pipes for multiple generations. Fohr still uses molds of brass and iron that are over 200 years old, utilising the famous clay of his region in Germany, clay that has a worldwide reputation for its use in fine pottery. It's also excellent for pipes, like the traditional paneled Cutty shape presented here. Readily prevalent in taverns centuries ago, its petite, forward canted bowl retains the form's iconic heel spur underneath and is paired to a lengthy, arrow straight stem. Remember to wet the mouthpiece of your clay before smoking it, with water or whatever beverage most suits you, to avoid the initial tendency of clay to adhere to one's lips.

Note: While all of our other pipes are photographed individually, these are not, and you may expect some reasonable cosmetic variation between the example we've photographed and the pipe you've received.
