Scottie Piersel generally has three categories for her pencil-shanked pipes. There are the standard-length ones, which are charming for their sheer sleekness; the extra-long Magnums, which take a great deal of skill and time to execute with perfection; and the "Driving Scotties," designed to be a convenient go-anywhere pieces. This piece doesn't seem to belong to any of these camps. Measuring in at a shade under 14cm (or a smidge over 5" for our US friends) in length, it's nominally a Driving Scottie, but with a bowl that wouldn't be out of place on one of her "Oversized" pieces.

Firmly in the "Bulldog with a round shank" camp of Rhodesians, this piece sports an outsized bowl with twin bead lines and a broad waist perched proudly atop a willowy shank. Finished in a sandblast so wild that I found myself compelled to double-check that it wasn't actually strawberry wood, its rim is crisply chamfered and finished smooth, while the raw sienna hued Cumberland stem is separated by a thin band of what appears to be Ivorite.
