As there are desk lighters, so I would argue are there desk tampers as well: designs that trade off lightness and small size in exchange for more functionality and greater aesthetic presence. This 8deco design is one I would qualify as a "desk" model — it's not exactly short, at over five inches in length, and there's a good amount of (pleasing) heft to it. In exchange for that, you get a more impressive look, and, more importantly, two different styles of tamping ends as well as a 3"-long dottle pick. At the base is 8deco's familiar vented tamper, useful for allowing you to puff and keep things smoldering while tamping; up top, there's the canted style of tamper also found in 8deco's Artist series, ideal for adjusting the glowing ember to keep it centered.
