The Bulldog has become something of a signature shape for Werner Mummert. It's easy to see why, as the form naturally lends itself to Werner's playful tendencies. Here, he takes the panels and lines that characterise the English classic and exaggerates them. This imbues the piece with an angular aesthetic that contrasts with the round bowl and domed rim. On the whole the piece represents a kind of geometric minimalism.

The pipe also shows off something quite rare in terms of medium. Morta is usually presented in a sandblasted finish, which highlights its interesting grain pattern. Werner has boldly opted for a smooth finish, which makes this playful take on the classic feel rather dressed up.
