Werner Mummert: Sandblasted Hawkbill

Product Number: 002-203-0022

While usually known for his wild, eccentric designs and avant-garde aesthetic, Werner Mummert does seem to have a fondness for the occasional classic, with this Hawkbill among the latter. The iconic shape dates back to late 19th century France, later becoming a mainstay of Italian pipe making, and is here rendered in fine stead by the German artisan.

Rather than a de rigueur Apple bowl, Mummert has crafted a Brandy-like bowl, with a low waistline and easy taper to the rim that lend it a rather Danish aesthetic, supple curves creating a voluptuous in-hand feel, and a rising oval shank and downturn of the saddle stem that give the shape its famous aquiline design. Finished in an extra craggy sandblast that reveals concentric circlets of pronounced ring grain and a subtle contrast stain, it's all paired to a vulcanite stem inlayed with exotic wood.
